The titles that accompany your inimitable artwork make it obvious that you are not only a virtuoso artist but also blessed with a poetic soul. The descriptions that go with your pieces also give me reason to believe that you are an erudite scholar and a deep thinker. The title of this beautiful work reminds me of the British scholar sir John Bagot Glubb (1897-1966.) You can read his famous essay, THE FATE OF EMPIRES online. He studied many of the 63 or so empires throughout the recorded history dating back to ancient Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq.) He noticed that all empires go through the same stages he called "age." He maintained that all empires and complex societies make the same mistakes and have the same fate. It's a truly fascinating true story that he compiled. Your statement "History continues to repeat itself" reminded of philosopher George Santayana who said, "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." I hope you realize that your artistic talent is a precious gift you were born with, Megan.

Artist's Description

In all of history, empires rise only to crumble. Politics and international struggles spark intense strong emotions, and at times panic attacks.

As a 35 year old, the politics of the early 2000s greatly influenced me. Now we're in the 2020's. Yet another decade, filled with political upheaval, danger to democracy, and violence against those that answer the call to action and protest against both violence and apathy. History continues to repeat itself.

I am breaking through and processing. I love seeing my artwork evolve with my mental health. Sometimes, I imagine breaking through a black-painted window and escaping a dark room, a lightless place filled with razors and broken mirrors. Outside, there are shards of glass everywhere. It is still painful, but I finally escaped. And the wounds will heal. They are healing. I pour my soul into my paintings because I must stay grounded. My parts, my emotions. I urgently and compassionately create visual representations of them because if I don't, the...
